Benefits of Breastfeeding for Babies and Moms: Ask an Expert

Information is power, especially when it comes to good health.  A new ongoing program being launched by Kaiser Permanente aims to put that information squarely into the hands of the people who need it most.  KP Healthy Chats will allow people to engage in live chat online with physicians, and the very first chat will focus on breastfeeding.  Rocio Perez, MD, a Kaiser Permanente pediatrician who recently became a mother, will be available to answer your questions on the subject.

Breastfeeding has a host of known benefits.  Childhood obesity is on the rise, and one of the best ways to prevent it is breastfeeding.  Antibodies a mother passes on to her baby via breastfeeding increase the child’s immunity. Breastfeeding babies contract fewer ear infections and suffer less from diarrhea, flu and other stomach ailments.  Breastfed babies are even at lower risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

The chat will take place Tuesday, August 7, from Noon to 1 p.m., Pacific Daylight Time.  Bookmark this page, and come back at Tuesday to join the Healthy Chat.  Producers of the chat are encouraging folks to submit their questions early, so comment on this page with your question, and they will add it to the list.
