A Happy — and Healthy — 4th of July

What’s not to love about the 4th of July?  As far as holidays go, it’s got the goods:  Sun, good food, family and friends, and even fireworks after dark.  To fully enjoy the holiday, though, we all need to be in good health.

This year, the Red Cross has issued tips to promote a safe 4th of July.  Offering preventive guidelines around fireworks, grilling, sun and beach time (including rip currents), these are definitely worth reading and sharing.  There is also a free Red Cross first aid app available for smart phones — providing “expert advice for everyday emergencies.”  Couldn’t hurt to have that at your fingertips this holiday weekend.

Finally, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has its own list of pet safety tips to ensure even the furriest members of our families have a safe and healthy holiday.  Check out the ASPCA’s advice regarding pets and fireworks, alcohol, insect repellant, sunscreen, food, open flames and more on their website.

Have a safe, healthy and happy Independence Day!
