Fire Up Your Feet: Creating Active Lifestyles, Starting at Schools

Students who are physically active and eat healthy receive higher grades. Schools are an excellent focal point for communities to come together to encourage positive change. And getting children started on a healthy path now can last a lifetime — studies show that employees with good nutrition habits are 25 percent more likely to perform better on the job.

Fire Up Your Feet encourages families, students and schools to work together and create active lifestyles which inspire all children to be healthy and physically active. Centered around the school day, the website for this new initiative provides a full range of age-appropriate resources and educational materials to encourage physical activity to, from, and at school. Any school or PTA group in the country can utilize these resources.

Fire Up Your Feet fundraising provides PTAs and school groups a healthy, easy choice for school fundraisers. It inspires family, students and teachers to get moving to raise money for the cause of fighting childhood obesity and also make a big different in schools.

Fire Up Your Feet is a core program of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. The Safe Routes to School National Partnership’s mission is to advocate for safe walking and bicycling to and from schools, and in daily life, to improve the health and well-being of America’s children and to foster the creation of livable, sustainable communities. The National Partnership led the first Fire Up Your Feet pilot program and continues to provide core staffing and resources for the national expansion.
