Health Care Reform and Access to Care

The year 2012 will be an important step for health care reform, as it moves all of us closer to when the major access provisions of health reform are implemented in 2014. Some 32 million people will gain health coverage by 2014. Much of this expansion will happen through two basic mechanisms: Medicaid and new, state-run health insurance exchanges that extend free or subsidized coverage to low-income individuals and families. But not everyone will be covered. It’s been estimated between 15-20 million people will remain uninsured. In this video, Dr. Susan Fleischman, vice president of Medicaid, CHIP, and Charitable Care for Kaiser Permanente speaks about what is in store for 2012 and the continuous need to support those who will remain uninsured.
