The Power of Doctor-Patient Collaboration

Today, we introduce you to Dave deBronkart — also known as e-Patient Dave. Diagnosed with late-stage cancer in 2007, he took to the Internet, engaging with fellow cancer patients and learning as much as possible about his disease and treatment options. With the terrific care he received from his doctors and nurses at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, and armed with an understanding of what to expect and how to manage his experience, Dave beat cancer. Today, his is one of the most respected and sought-after voices in the e-patient movement; he serves as chair of the Society for Participatory Medicine, and soon Dave will begin contributing articles on patient empowerment to HuffPost Healthy Living.

Earlier this year, Dave was invited to speak about his experience and the importance of doctor-patient collaboration at a TEDx conference on the future of health. Here is a video of his presentation at that meeting.
