Organic Peach Farmer/Author David Mas Masumoto on Food’s Links to Community, Sustainability, Tradition

California organic peach farmer David Mas Masumoto was one of many leaders in sustainable food and public health who attended the “Food for Health Forum” in San Francisco on Oct. 15.

At the second annual event, which was hosted by Kaiser Permanente and Preston Maring, MD, physicians, health care professionals and sustainable food advocates discussed ways to strengthen the role of nutritious food in health care.

In Masumoto’s view, food should not be taken lightly. Food has a direct link to community, sustainability and tradition, he says.

Masumoto, who is the author of four books that celebrate food, owns an organic peach farm south of Fresno, Calif., which is in the middle of the state’s fertile farmland. Here he shares his thoughts on the meaning of food and sustainability.
